Going to the beach? Pack these essentials!

Summer holidays are only moments away. We’re ticking off the days on our calendars, waiting for the end of exams and for the last school bells to ring, so we can finally hit it up at the beach.

Packing for the beach can be a real stress for some people, so use this list to help you remember what to take:

1. Sunscreen

This should go without saying, but sunscreen really is the number one thing you should take with to the beach. In fact, it’s the number one thing you should take anywhere with you if you’re planning on going outside. Whether you’re an SPF 5 or SPF 50 kind of person, sun block is any beach goer’s essential.

Sunscreen blocks the sun’s harmful rays which cause skin conditions and even skin cancer later on life. It also has anti-aging benefits, keeping your skin looking younger and healthier for longer. Sunscreen is available in the usual cream based, as well as roll-on and aerosol sprays for easier application, so you really have no excuses.

2. Beach towel

For spontaneous trips to the beach, keep your beach towel in your car at all times! Whether you’re going to lay on the sand and tan, or have a quick dip in the sea, you’ll be glad you brought your beach towel with. Definitely the best way to keep the sand off, get dry and stay warm when the beach breeze picks up unexpectedly.

3. Cooler bag

If you’re going to be spending the whole day at the beach, the best thing to bring would be a cooler bag filled with all your snack essentials. This is a great way to keep the sand off your food and keep your food cold after hours in the sun. Remember to pack lots of water to keep hydrated in the hot summer sun!

4. Swimwear

No beach day is complete without the perfect swimming outfit.

Don’t be ashamed to strut your stuff on Clifton or Camps Bay! There’s swimsuits for every body shape and size, and you’ll be sure to find the perfect one! Swimsuits aren’t only the perfect accessory for swimming in the sea, they’re also the best outfit to wear for catching the ultimate tan this summer.

5. Sunglasses

Sunglasses are a must-have for any serious beach goer. There’s nothing worse then spending your entire beach day shading the sun’s glare with your hand. Pop on a pair of these and your eyes will be protected from the sun’s rays. Make sure you’re wearing the real deal and not some cheap knock-offs, as those can actually do more harm than good.

Also great for keeping your eyes covered while you have your mandatory tanning-nap. Sunglasses on is a clear indication of “do not disturb!”

6. Summer reading

Are you the type of person who gets bored easily on the beach? Do you dread the moments when all your friends swimming or napping, and there’s nobody to play beach bats with? Occupy your time with a great book this summer. Best books for a beach holiday would be romance or drama books.  If you’re a serious type, a classic novel or a page-turning thriller are great to fill the time as well. Show off your nerdy side with a summer read today.
